Economic Recession and Sri Rama Sena

Hi,
Looking at the innumerable TV interviews and media publicity on the recent Mangalore incidents, I wonder - What is more important for India right now? To fight Economic Recession or to fight for Valentines day? Shouldn't the media more focussed on conducting interviews with econominsts than leaders of Sree Rama Sena..

Pour in your thoughts....

  1. I completely agree that doing something about the economy is more important than doing something about Valentine's day. But since your thoughts are directed more towards the media. Media is just a business or at the most a platform to convey information. Though it is supposed to be non-biased and perform as a vehicle for transporting information. You cannot ignore the fact that it is still a business. Any business needs money, and the only way they can generate money is by having more consumers. So, end of the day they just want to make people view their channels, and people love masala more than anything else, so they just take something that is happening in the world and blow it up. Otherwise, there is no need to sensationalize so many things.
Having said that, there is also a need to bring in awareness about various things, what happened in Managalore is not a joke, it is a serious thing, and it will have repurcussions if left unchecked. What people were doing in the pub was also wrong and what people did to those guys was also wrong. All this is because of identity crisis, you cannot accept all Indians to Westernize, and it may not be the right thing, we have our culture, and our tradition, when it is threatened, there is a need to make people understand the implications of copying some other culture. But, there is no need to force people into it accepting something or some ideologies.
As far as economic problems are concerned, it cannot be solved by discussing on television, and for the channels, the audience for these programs is very less and not everyone is interested because lot of them do not understand these topics.
